[Week One]

So I totally meant to do this yesterday but forgot...

I've decided to resurrect the 365 project I started. I really enjoyed the challenge of taking a photo each day, no matter how mundane or exciting it was. And I figured, why not capture my 19th year of being alive? So, starting Sunday June 21, I have been taking a photo a day. I won't be posting them on Flickr because it's LAME and only holds 200 before they aren't viewable because you aren't paying, so I'm going to post them here :) Once a week, I'll put up the photos. You can just ignore them, it's mainly for me and to keep me using my camera.

Now, without further ado...Emily's first week as a 19 year old!

June 21

June 22

From coffee with my favourite woman, Kat. Isn't she creative?

June 23

New op-shop shoes - $6.95! For novo shoes too...not bad I say. Not bad.

Why everyone should work in an office - look what the accounts brought in! They were the most amazing cupcakes of my life. They were like a fluffy cloud of heaven in a bite.

June 25

Sometimes you just have to make your own fun at work...

June 26

My favourite kind of price tag. From my new and lovely dress :)

June 27

And there ends week one! I'm excited about this.
Now...sleep time. A big day tomorrow!

GHD

The GHD, as pictured above, is meant to be my new best friend. We've been together for precisely one week so far, and unfortunately, it's not the greatest relationship I've ever had. I burn my fingers and ears. My hair is not curly, but kinky, in the SUPER BAD WAY. I've seen a million youtube videos of girls whose GHD lovingly styles their hair so they look like supermodels. I just kind of look like a little girl playing dress ups with her mum's stuff, and who went to bed with wet hair and slept on it at a funny angle.

*sigh*

I do have hope for the future! But it will be a laborious one.
I'm slowly learning that being alone doesn't necessarily equal lonely. It does at times. But it doesn't have to be all the time. And that is good :)

quoting

...I like to see people reunited... I like the hugging, the bringing together, the end of missing someone...

...how did I get here and how can I get back?...

...it was such a beautiful need, there's nothing wrong with not understanding yourself...

...it is war waged by humanity against humanity, and it will only end when there's no one left to fight...

...she wants to know if I love her, that's all anyone wants from anyone else, not love itself but the knowledge that love is there...

Up Loud and Incredibly Close//Jonathan Safran Foer

I still love this book, although it makes me feel quite melancholic. Or maybe I'm melancholic and therefore like the book? Either way.

new books

Trying new things. This book is captivating.

'Does it break my heart, of course, every moment of every day, into more pieces than my heart was made of, I never thought of myself as quiet, much less silent, I never thought about things at all, everything changed, the distance that wedged itself between me and my happiness wasn't the world, it wasn't the bombs and burning buildings, it was me, my thinking, the cancer of never letting go, is ignorance bliss, I don't know, but it's so painful to think, and tell me, what did thinking ever do for me, to what great place did thinking ever bring me? I've thought myself out of happiness one million times, but never once into it.'

- Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer. p. 17.
I have a million birthday photos I could put up here, but I don't know if enough people read this to warrant it. But have it be known, Thursday night at Burswood was wonderful. The rest of the weekend was nice too, with GHDs and cake.

I've realized that I seem to end up with a subconscious personal theme song on quite a regular basis. Does anyone else get this? Or is it just me? These last few days, a few lines have been circulating my mind that encapsulate exactly how I feel.

Maybe I'm just crazy or something. Who knows. maybe it's part of 19?

Some lame survey

Ten things you wish you could say to ten different people:
1. You are the best thing that could have happened to me; despite all the ups and downs, you are my best friend and I know the future will be good, we'll get there, soon. It'll be okay.
2. Thank you for word-loving, coffee-filled, lawbry-loaded fun times. You're fantastic. Rawr!
3. Dance with me lady friend!
4. I have a feeling this is going to be a mistake...
5. You make me feel at peace with the world; thank you for the happy memories, good talks, equal love of entire blocks of chocolate :)
6. One of my oldest, and most trustworthy friends. You and your brains amaze me!
7. Uni sucks, except for us. Yay!
8. Maybe, you should talk about something else. Just for once.
9. You had toilet paper stuck on your shoe, but I didn't tell you cos it was funny.
10. Just say it already!

Nine things about yourself:
1. I read, re-read, and re-re-read books. I rarely buy new ones. I rarely experiment with new ones.
2. My birthday night at the Burswood was wikkiiiiiid. Be jealous.
3. My least favourite body part on almost all people is feet. I don't mind if they are encased in shoes, but really, feet are so ugly. And toes.
4. I drink long macchiatos or lattes. No sugar.
5. Organisation is my spiritual deficit; I lose things, I forget things, I'm messy and colour and scrawl define my life.
6. Motivation comes, for me, in random bursts. Usually at inconvenient times.
7. I'm kind of bad at sharing the important things.
8. Choosing units is one of the hardest tasks I undertake each semester.
9. My dreams are so many that I can't keep them all in my mind, so I just hope that they'll come to reality and remind me that I achieved them, even if I can't remember knowing them in the first place.

Eight of your favorite bands/singers: (Expect this to be a conglomeration of every band you don't love, because I have a terrible taste in music)
1. Switchfoot
2. Israel Houghton
3. Death Cab
4. Coldplay
5. Kings of Leon
6. Damien Rice
7. The Beatles
8. Queen

Seven things that cross your mind a lot:
1. Maybe change is a good thing. Maybe not.
2. Where're my keys??
3. Maybe I should write a list of the things I need to do.
4. Maybe I should add some stuff to the list so I can cross them off, since I've already done them.
5. The last thing I remember him saying to me.
6. Law is lame.
7. What outfits I'll wear for the next week. I like to plan these things, so I have an outfit formulated in my mind to suit my mood.

Six things you do before you fall asleep:
1. Drink a cup of tea.
2. Brush the teeth.
3. Think of a fun sentence and translate it to French.
4. Decide on a completely new plan for the future.
5. Contemplate the people and how much I love them.
6. Set my alarm.

Five people, aside of family, who mean a lot to me at the moment:
1. The girls, for being amazing.
2. The boys, for being also amazing.
3. The Hush people, for making me good coffee.
4. The brother, for making me laugh.
5. The person that inspires me every second of every day to be better, and the best.

Four things you see right now:
1. A purple 80s stamp!
2. Op shop purchases: a dress, and some fabulous high heels.
3. White chocolate liqueur.
4. My giraffe.

Three songs you're hooked on at the moment:
1. Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
2. Warwick Avenue - Duffy
3. The Black Eyed Peas song, that is so freaking catchy it's not funny. It makes me dance in my car.

Two things you want to do before you die:
1. Discover something amazing.
2. Go to every continent.

One confession:
I'm a really good liar. Try catch me out.

Emily's Thoughts for a new week

* New study chairs definitely invigorate new study motivation! This chair is the best thing I've ever sat on. It has wheels :) and a high back! And a comfy back support! I'm so excited

* Studying in pyjamas makes Emily a happy happy girl :)

* Thursday night is Burswood night! Speaking of Burswood, the fam went to see the Queen tribute concert on Saturday night, oh my goodness it was amazing! I love Queen infinitely, and even though the band obviously wasn't Queen, there were times you could close your eyes and swear they were! The guy playing Freddie Mercury was amazinnnnnggggggg. That is all. And, Burswood buffet = AMAZING OMG. Anyway, Thursday night I'm staying overnight at Burswood with four of the ladyfriends, meeting up with others for dinner (come! You know you want to!), and generally enjoying an end-of-exam feeling and not-quite-yet being old.

* Hand-written notes make me learn better, but typed notes are soooo much prettier.

* All-time greatest chocolate is the caramel truffle at San Churros. Go. Eat. Enjoy.

* So You Think You Can Dance America started on Friday! Life has meaning and fulfillment again. I've noticed American shows are a lot meaner than Australian ones. They really rip into the contestants a little too much - like come on! They're trying! I ♥ TiVo even more now.

* Kikki-K had a fun sale! Stocked up on my uni stuff for next semester. It's depressing that I haven't even finished this semester yet. Two exams....

* Hush is my new regular cafe when I'm working. Best long macs in Fremantle. Go there. Enjoy.

* Multi coloured pens are a fun novelty.

* I'm officially an e-bay addict. Oh wow. I can't help myself.

* Next week is back-to-work semi-full-time week :( Lameo. I'm excited to learn some new things and be more accounts-y than reception/filing-y but still. I love free time. I'll just say good bye to it for four weeks. Ew.

* Renewing your license, passport and getting a Working With Children's Check is an expensive time.

Study time now... fun political rants later.

Sore fingers

I burnt three of my fingers while I was heating up my soup for lunch and now I can't type for more than two minutes without needed to put more ice on it :( This sucks!!

Monday, June 08, 2009

I am a sad girl today, I feel as though I've lost my identity. My ear piercing has chucked a sad and I can no longer wear any other earrings except boring, unnoticeable sleepers until it gets less painful :( I don't know what I'm going to do! Choosing my earrings was my favourite part of my day!

I'm so depressed.

On more exciting information, I had my first taste of gambling the other day. Lindsay urged me on, and we both managed to enormous profit of $4 (me) and $1.20, or maybe $2.20 (Lindsay). I can't say it's something I'd do super often, but it was super fun! Races are a fun way of life. Everyone looked so pretty :) It was kind of weird seeing work people not at work, doing the whole 'we're friends' thing, but it was also kind of nice :)

Endora was excellent and won at life.

Sam's birthday dinner was fun times :) I can't believe how many old friends I have now. I don't really like it :( Everyone stop growing up!

I have found my new ultimate makeup. I'm a bit scared to pay for it. But it'll be so worth it. It's unbelievable. Seriously. I'll show pictures when I bring myself to buy it. Which will probably be Thursday =D

Torts exam is FINALLY this Wednesday (thank goodness) so I'll have finally clicked into exam mode.

Life is so quiiiiiiiiet. Where's all the excitement already?

Pasta makes you warm inside

I just bought the most fabulous pair of boots. I really am getting addicted to buying things. What am I going to do when I don't have money any more???

This weather is simply fabulous for getting lots of work done. I'm looking forward to a productive night, fingers crossed. Does anyone have an opinion on the relationship between the media, candidate-oriented voting and voter attitudes? Call me if you do.

I've noticed my ears are getting colder very quickly. It is lame. How do you keep them warm?

Hush in Fremantle have the best coffee.

I have so many projects for the holidays!

FINALLY APPLIED FOR MY WORKING WITH CHILDRENS CHECK OMG IT IS SO FREAKING DIFFICULT

Bidding on ebay is fun!!

I love socks

And Arrested Development - I wish my name was Bob Loblaw. 'Why should you be punished for a crime someone saw you commit?'

Work is lame face. At least it's good for learning how to bottle your feelings and answer the phone with a smile.

Cleaning is SO LAME

I need a friend, who's free?

I have officially lost all faith in democracy.

I really really hope they have another daylight saving trial for the next decade until people vote it in.

How Emily Passes Her Time

I've rediscovered PhotoBooth the last few days. It is so much fun! Anyway, I have a one of my tutoring kids coming soon, so I don't have time-slash-can't be bothered doing any work in the next half an hour, so I thought I'd tell the non-existent internet world what's been a-happening, with some exciting photos.

1. Mobile Polling Fun Times

That was my sexy badge. I spent yesterday at three old folks' homes, collecting their votes for the referendum. It got me worried, some of the people who hold the power of democracy in their hands but can't even say what they're voting about! AH! However, some of the people were entertaining, some made me quite reflective and sad and others I just thought hardly deserved to vote. Oh well. One lady told me that bingo had been cancelled for the voting, but Knit and Chat was still on. Man, I wish I could go to knit and chat.

2. Prettyyy

To prove I'm really a grandma at heart, I have also been cross-stitching. It serves many good purposes. I have something to show for the time I'm not studying. It's easy. I feel productive. It's pretty. And... yeah. I can practice being a good grandma?

3. Writing Lists.

I got my exam timetable FINALLY. And it's actually great! Yay! So I feel much more relaxed about it all. I have the motivating stress not the paralytic stress.

4. Thinking about doing this...

My hair is now so long I can accidentally zip it into my high-waisted skirt. I'm still deciding what to do about that. I really love my long hair, but change isn't a bad thing. We'll see.

Anyway, I might go clean up a bit - soooo much to do tonight. I don't believe in Reflection papers. No siree!

retail therapy and libraries

I'm not shallow or anything *cough* but I do believe that the main way to turn a fairly dull day into a fabulous one is to buy something. There is no feeling like the feeling of having lots of pretty things stimulating the economy. After all, it is a time to take advantage of mega sales recession.

I had an incredibly productive day at the library which made me think maybe I should just move in there, I'd get so much work done. Then I went to Napoleon St, saw three fabulous school friends who I hadn't seen in FOREVER. Then, when heading home I saw a shop that I normally don't go in because cool people work there, but I decided I should have a look. And I found TWO beautiful beautiful skirts. I only bought one - the other is in my heart, but I can't bring myself to buy it because I know I'll only wear it once, and one wear for an $80 skirt just doesn't quite do it for me. But this other one is just perfect and I am officially in love with it. So now, I've had just about the most perfect day ever!

I have a really good feeling about life at the moment, which is a good change. It had been getting a bit dreary there for a while!

Anyway, another observation I made today is that there is nothing like coffee conversation. I think the caffeine might stimulate a better conversation than say, water. Also, there's a gym in Cottesloe Central which is just about the weirdest thing ever. I'd be too embarrassed to walk out, after I've been at the gym I'm as red as a tomato and a gazillion times as smelly.

I re-watched A Beautiful Mind last night and was reminded why I love that movie so much. My favourite line: 'You are my reason. You are all my reasons'. It is just so beautiful! Watch it if you haven't.

Well, I must do some more research (woooo online articles and 20-reference essays), eat dinner, then head to the Loft, a lovely place!
xoxo

I would like to say that the Book of Job is fabulous for putting your feelings of lameness and like you suck into perspective. I had a Godthing niggling in the back of my mind to read it last night and so I did; and wow did it clear up some of the ickiness I've been feeling of late.

Some things I've been up to:
* Procrastinating hopelessly. It's becoming a deadly cycle, but I'm determined to break. I only get one life!
* Planning life. I've had some inspiring ideas I'm quite excited about.
* Making this:

I started at Salty weekend. I think it's quite cute =D
* Going to the gym again! I finally got out of my gym funk today and I feel sooooo much better for it. Exercise is also a massive factor in making my mind focus and get over the things it thinks are bad.
* Saving! I'm proud of my discipline.
* Getting excited for this!

In case you can't see, it's tickets to the So You Think you Can Dance tour. It will be the greatest moment of my life.
* Meeting Chris Murphy. This photo was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. Unfortunately, he's barely a celebrity. More of a semi-familiar name. But he was fairly entertaining.

* Seeing Fired Up and The Boat That Rocked. These two movies were awesome in two totally different ways! One rule for seeing Fired Up: take Jordan Holt with you. Or myself. Or maybe go with the two of us, and Emma, bcause we'd be the only other people in the world to appreciate it properly. Seriously.

Emily says...

Emily says to remind her not to try to be nice and offer her time to people who don't care about it.
Emily also says to remind her to not waste two days in a row of perfectly good study time.
Emily furthermore says that ugg boots are the best, and sleepiness can be quite a cozy state of existence.

Also! See The Boat That Rocked if you haven't already. Sooo much fun.

Big Question

Often I find myself pondering The Big Questions. Seriously. Questions like why the coffee at uni tastes best on a Wednesday and not a Tuesday, and which toilet cubicle has the best graffiti. Today I was thinking about this conundrum: when you say 'not bad', you mean 'yeah, fairly okay, edging on good'. When you say 'not good', you mean bad. Why don't you just say 'bad' or 'good'? Why do we waste a whole syllable saying 'not'?

See? Big Question. I told you.
