So today on the news I see Brett - a guy who has been rocking up to Mounties for a while, and he's been sent to jail for two years.
Basically two years ago, he was involved in a drag race, where he lost control of the car (he was driving under the influence and was also high) and crashed, killing the two guys in the car with him. Since then he suffered serious depression, was nearly suicidal, until he found Jesus and turned his life around - which the news basically subliminally made a joke of - tone goes a long way. So he's been studying to become a Baptist minister, which I reckon rocks, and he's been a youth guy for a while, talking to guys and generally helping out around youth. During camp he had to leave early for his trial, and he's been so upbeat about it, saying how he'll witness to guys in prison, as scary as that will honestly be, and good old Uncle Col has been working with him to make sure he can continue his Bible College course in jail with the Chaplain there. Basically, despite the court recognizing the change in Brett and his life, and the victim's families supporting Brett throughout the trial, he's still been sent to jail, because the court feels they need to address what happened at the time.
Brett is one of the happiest, most encouraging people I've ever met, and it's amazing that even though he is basically responsible for the deaths of two guys, which is something that he will carry with him always, he's still thinking of making the most of every opportunity he has in life to do what he believes to be his best in God. So if anyone out there feels inclined to send a few prayers upward for Brett over the next two years, please do, cos he definitely needs them.
